Sudan is in northeastern Africa on the red sea cost stopped by Labia on the northwest, Egypt on the north, the Red Sea, Eritrea, and Ethiopia on the east, South Sudan on the south, and the Central African Republic and Chad on the west. Sudan was ruled by Britain for six decades but was freed in 1956 Sudan also used to be the biggest but the southern part became independent in 2011 Sudan’s north and south became separated after fighting for decades. The fight was often over religious and/ or cultural differences. The south revolted in 1955 part of the civil war that ended in 1972.Afterwards the north   tried to regain the south which was the touch of the second civil war which lasted for over two decades. The war took approximately two million people and chased like 4.5 million from their homes but, they  made a peace agreement in 2005.Sudan has a large vast plain that that makes a part of the Nile basin and slopes northward to Egypt from the highlands of eastern and central Africa. The country is bounded on east and west by hills and mountains. The border between Sudan and South Sudan is savanna. Mountains in the western part of South Sudan separate the Nile and Congo basins. In central Sudan are the Nubba Mountains; and in the west is the Jebel Mara.

The Nile River is the best physical feature. The huge basin making up Sudan adds little to the Nile's waters.Almost all water comes from Ethiopia and lake plateau area of east central Africa. There are two chief streams of the upper Nile basin (White Nile Blue Nile) .The Blue and white Nile are chief streams above the Nile   comes together at Khartoum to make the main Nile . Lots of Sudan people liveand work along the Nile and the major streams. The White Nile is called Bahr el-Jebel. White Nile flows north from Lake Victoria through Uganda, going in South Sudan at Nimule, and then going in Sudan in White Nile state. Blue Nile comes from Lake Tana in the Ethiopian Highlands. The Atbara River, which also flows from Ethiopia, joins the Nile farther north.  Also there are Fierce sandstorms  called haboobs witch move over the broad expanse of yellow sand and gravel in to Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. The lovely tree-lined boulevards, gardens, and flower beds, an amazing contrast to the desert a few miles from the Nile River, are soon covered with a layer of sand. The people walking on the streets are used to these summer storms. They quickly gather up their belongings and go in nearby buildings. Soon the storm passes, and the people return to their business. The red stripe represents Sudan's hard work for independence and the sacrifices of the country's martyrs. The white represents peace and light. It also represents the White Flag League which was a nationalist group that stood  up against colonial rule in 1924. The black stripe represents Sudan, in Arabic 'Sudan' means black. It also represents the black flag of nationalists who fought colonial rule during the Mahdi’s Revolution, late in 19th century. Green represents Islam, agriculture and the prosperity of the land.
