Population

     There are currently 175 million people in Pakistan. There are four main groups of Pakistan. The biggest of them is Punjabi. Around forty-five percent of the population is Pinjabi. The next biggest is the Pashtuns. Pashtuns are related to some people of Afghanistan. They usually live on the north west frontier province, which is full of mountains. Another group is the sindhis who lives in the south. The last group is the Baluchi. They live in nomadic tribes. They inhabited south west of Baluchistan which is the biggest but most deserted.

Culture-Languages

     In Pakistan there are 2 offical languages. There is English and Urdu. Urdu is similar to Hindu and it has words from Arabic and Persian. English is a sign of when the british ruled. Four regional languages are usually spoken. They are Chiefly Punjab, Sindhi, Phasto, and Baluchi.

 

Culture-Foods 

     The people of Pakistan usually eat bread with vegetables and meat. Tea is one of the most popular drinks in Pakistan. They eat rice with meat and vegetables on ceremonial occasions. They also eat kebabs and meat cut into cubes. Their meat is usually chicken, lamb or beef. Not eating pork is part of Muslim traditions. A lot of spices are used in the food. Most farms are small but farmers are encouraged machines and better seeds for more crops. Wheat is grown for food and cotton is grown for commercial uses. They also grow rice, corn, millet, sugarcanes, citrus fruits and vegetables. Rice is the most important of what is grown. Land that cannot be used for farming is used to raise goats, sheep, cattle and camels.

 

                                                                                                   Culture-Clothing

     The men of Pakistan usually wear pugri which is a long strip of cloth wrapped around their head, like a turban. They also wear shalwar which is a pair of shaggy pants. They wear long shirts worn outside the pants. For the fancy people, they wear a fur hat which is called a jinnah cap. The jinnah cap was named after Mohammed Ali Jinnah. The fancy also wear a jacket called sherwani and tight pants called churidars. The women of Pakistan also wear a shalwar. They wear shirts called kurta and scarves called dupatta. In the cities both genders wear western style clothing.

 

Culture-Entertainment

     The people of Pakistan ride camels for fun like how some peole ride horses for fun. Everyone usually has enough money to play cricket. The richer people can afford televisions and video games.

 

Culture-Religion

     95%-98% of people in Pakistan are Islam, which is Muslim. The other percentage is Christian, Hindu and some other stuff. There are 2 different groups of Muslim. Alot of them are Sunni Muslims and around 5%-20% are Shias. Most of the Sunni Muslims go to Hanafi Islamic Law School and most of the Shias go to Ithna Ashariyyah Islamic Law School.

 

Culture-Famous People

     Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan is a very famous nuclear scientist of Pakistan. Asif Ali Zardi is also very famous person, but in a bad way. He was Prime Minister 2 times but not in a row. He was arrested for charges of corruption in 1996. He was released in 2004 and was elected President on September 6, 2008.

 

Ways Of Money Making

     They lower the labor by 4/5 and earn 1/4 more money. The biggest of factories produce cotton, clothing, foods and agricultural products. Some industries produce machinery, iron, steel, chemicals and fertilizers. Agriculture uses half of Pakistan's workers and earn 1/5 of Pakistan's money.

 

Government

     The President of Pakistan is the head of state while the Prime Minister of Pakistan is the head of government. The legislature is called Majlis-e-Shoora. There are 2 houses, the 100 seat Senate and the 342 seat National Assembly. Senators are there for 6 years four times. National Assembly are there for 5 years. 272 are elected, 60 are women and 10 are for non Muslims.

 

Pakistan's Poverty

     The human development index (HDI) is 0.572. Poverty of Pakistan is cause by lack of money. This is because a lot of Pakistan people are not educated, the people are not looking at their income, a single person's income is very low, there is a lot of unemployment and chances for jobs are low, the population is very big so a single person's income has to take care of a whole family and there are high prices on everything. Although there is a group called International Montary Funds (IMF) helping Pakistan right now.

 

Facts On Pakistan

     In Pakistan when you are 5-10 years old, school is free. There aren't much teachers or schools so only half of the kids who can go to school do go. Young people usually go to the cities to find jobs but 2/3 of the population still live in the rural areas. Houses are made of mud, stone or reed thatch. The houses are square with a flat mud roof and a layer of thatch. The houses are close to each other, usually around wells. The villagers grow thier own food. Other things are given to them by blacksmiths, potters, carpenters, barbers and tailors. When Pakistan got it's independence, Pakistan split into East and West Pakistan. East Pakistan broke away and is now called Bangladesh.
